A texture is a specially formatted bitmap that
has been created especially for EarthNavigator. The bitmap is superimposed or 'wrapped' around the globe to give it a more realistic look.
Registered users of EarthNavigator may download and select much more detailed
textures than the 1000 x 500 pixel resolution included with
EarthNavigator.
Sample snapshots
of the globe for each of the available globe textures are shown at the right. Click on any
snapshot for a larger example.
The first four snapshots are of Western
Canada and North-West United States while the City Lights snapshot
shows North America at night.
When you view the
whole globe, you won't see much difference between textures.
However, as you zoom in to the globe, the Earth 1000 x 500 texture will
appear grainy.
For best performance and resolution, use the Earth
5400 x 2700 texture.
The
texture maps (except the Earth 10800 x 5400 texture) can be downloaded from our Yahoo
Group files section. Again, only registered users of
EarthNavigator may select and view a more detailed texture.
